The people giving out “The Light” in Stroud might look like harmless eccentrics, but the freesheet they are distributing (and writing articles for) functions as one long bait and switch for hippy-leaning people concerned about modernity and technology, to be directed to a variety of far right, anti-government, anti-immigration, racist, climate change denying propagandists.

Our Free Town sounds nice… it’s all about self-sufficiency, and creating “a cultural community in Stroud – a sense of well-being, togetherness, kindness and giving”. What’s not to like?
It turns out to be the group of contrarians that distribute “The Light” paper in Stroud, operating yet another front group to recruit people into conspiracy beliefs and tolerance of far-right ideas, individuals and organisations.
On Saturday 10th August 2024, Stroud Love Music Hate Racism organised a rally in response to the racist riots and violence that had been taking place in the preceding week.
We sent a letter to the Stroud News and Journal about the “Independent” candidate for Stroud MP on Friday 5th July. On 10th July 2024, they published a heavily edited version of this letter – removing a lot of detail we feel is crucial. We don’t know why. Read the letter on our website
We were at Stroud Pride today sharing a stall with friends from Stroud Against Racism.
We handed out updated copies of our leaflet on why we should Bin “The Light” paper because it promotes transphobia and homophobia – the text of which is copied below. Elsewhere on our website you can find a downloadable pdf version of the flyer and more details. We had lots of good conversations at a great event!
“The Light” paper has appoints Hitler-lover John Hamer as a regular contributor. In this article we discuss his denial of The Holocaust, antisemitic conspiracy theories, and promotion of hatred of Jewish people.
We plan to produce summaries looking at each issue of The Light. Below we look at Issue 39, which continues to promote false claims on climate – as we have we have written about previously.
